St Andrews is throwing open its doors for the 48th staging of the AIG Women's Open.

Visiting the iconic Old Course is a unique treat. Here is some key info to help spectators make the most of a special experience.

Travel plans

First things first is getting there, and spectators are urged to plan their travel in advance, with a high number of ticket holders expected throughout the Championship.

There are multiple ways to reach the Old Course, including public transport, which is recommended to avoid traffic congestion on the roads.

The best views

Once in the magical surroundings of the home of golf, keeping up with the action is the top priority and spectators can get the best views via the grandstands located on the 1st and 18th greens.

There is no need to pre-book as seats are taken on a first-come first-served basis, while additional viewing platforms will be available around the course to watch the action unfold.

An essential app

With 18 holes in play, it is impossible to watch every drive, chip and putt so a key staple of Championship week is the AIG Women's Open app. There, you can view a live leaderboard, with up to date, hole-by-hole scoring from each round. You can also watch and listen to the all of the action via R&A TV live streams and AIG Women's Open Radio.

A live blog will also be running, and will have you covered from across the Old Course, as the best players in the world jostle for position.

Don't forget the suncream

As with any golf event, it is recommended all spectators bring plenty of sunscreen and water – but also waterproofs. As ever on a links course, you never know when the rain might arrive.

Free water refilling stations will also be available, with reusable stainless steel water bottles available for purchase. Alternatively, please bring your own from home.

The AIG Women’s Open will be operated as a cashless site and only credit or debit cards can be used to purchase food and drink.

A festival atmosphere

A day at the AIG Women's Open is not just about the golf. There will be something for everyone in our Festival Village, designed to generate a fun, vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

The Festival Village will host golf lessons with a PGA professional, a Mastercard Megaputt, shopping, bars, food trucks from a range of diverse vendors and a Sessions Stage, featuring an entertaining line-up, from interactive golf sessions and player showcases to live music performances.

Foodies will also be in their element, thanks to offerings from a range of exciting, passionate and diverse street food traders. Spectators are permitted to being their own, but alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted, and can also leave the venue and return later in the day if they wish.

Tom Grennan & Fleur East

A key highlight this year, do not miss Tom Grennan perform on Saturday 24 August. The BRIT and Ivor Novello-nominated singer-songwriter is the second chart-topping live music act to feature at the championship, following Ellie Goulding’s electric performance at Walton Heath last year.

Tom will be supported by Fleur East, celebrated for her electrifying performances and chart-topping hits.
