The undoubted highlight of Jang's career came at Royal Birkdale in 2005, as the South Korean stormed to a wire-to-wire AIG Women's Open victory.
Jang had recorded a runner-up finish at the Safeway LPGA Golf Championship during her rookie season in 2000, but five years later she was still searching for a first LPGA Tour win, her only professional title having been secured at the 1997 Korea Women's Open.
Yet Jang was a class apart at Birkdale. Rounds of 68 and 66 saw her open up a four-shot lead at the halfway stage and she held her nerve impressively thereafter to finish four clear of Sophie Gustafson with a 16-under aggregate.
Jang had already shown her liking for links golf when she finished tied-fourth at Turnberry in 2002, while her career also included three top-10 finishes in the U.S. Women's Open.
