One of Sweden's finest players, over a 15 year period Sophie Gustafson won five LPGA Tour events, 16 LET events and played in eight Solheim Cups.
But Gustafson's most notable performances undoubtably came in AIG Women's Opens, which included a superb win in 2000 at Royal Birkdale, winning by two strokes over four players, including her compatriot and former Champion Liselotte Neumann.
Gustafson's performances on links courses however rank her among the best in the history of the women's game. Gustafson had six top-tens in the AIG Women's Open, and all six were at links courses, with an eighth place at Royal Lytham & St Annes, a third place at Carnoustie in 2011, and three runner-ups, one at Birkdale and two again at Lytham.
Both second places for Gustafson at Royal Lytham, in 1998 and 2006, came at the expense of Sherri Steinhauer, and Jeong Jang pipped the Swede in 2005 at Royal Birkdale.
In history, Gustafson is tied with Marta Figueras-Dotti for the most runner-ups in the AIG Women's Open, and is tied with three-time Champion Karrie Webb with 14 rounds in the 60s in the event. Only Cristie Kerr and Inbee Park, with 15, have more.
Recently Gustafson has scaled back her playing career and has had success as a caddie, including caddying for Beth Allen during her most successful period on the LET.
