History will be made in 2025 when the AIG Women’s Open heads to Royal Porthcawl for the very first time.

Here’s everything you need to know about what will be the biggest women’s sport event ever staged in Wales.

When and where will the AIG Women’s Open take place?

The 2025 AIG Women’s Open will be staged at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club on the south coast of Wales.

The practice rounds will conclude on Wednesday 30 July, with the Championship beginning on Thursday 31 July. The final round will take place on Sunday 3 August.

How do I get tickets?

A variety of tickets are on sale now including multi-day bundles, which incorporates the practice day.

Youth tickets cost just £20 while under-16s are free, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Who is the AIG Women’s Open Champion?

Lydia Ko [above] won the 2024 AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews – the home of golf – in August.

The New Zealander topped a stacked leaderboard, finishing two strokes clear of two-time winner Jiyai Shin, 2023 Champion Lilia Vu and world number one Nelly Korda.

Where will the AIG Women's Open be held in 2026?

Royal Lytham & St Annes, in Lancashire, England, will stage the AIG Women’s Open in 2026.

It will be the 50th edition of the Championship.

What is the AIG Women’s Open?

The AIG Women’s Open is an annual golf championship staged in the UK. It is one of the five most prestigious tournaments in women's golf.

It was first staged at Fulford Golf Club in York in 1976, when Jenny Lee Smith triumphed.

How does it work?

The world's best golfers compete over four days to be crowned the AIG Women’s Open Champion.

Each golfer plays 18 holes on four consecutive days (Thursday to Sunday).

The golfer who completes their 72 holes in the fewest shots will be declared the winner. A play-off will take place if two or more players are tied on the same score.

How do players qualify for the AIG Women’s Open?

The AIG Women’s Open is contested by 144 of the best golfers in the world.

Players can qualify for the Championship through a variety of exemption categories, which you will be able to see here closer to the time.

Non-exempt players will also be able to qualify for the Championship through Pre-Qualifying and Final Qualifying – the dates of which will be confirmed in due course.
